The Trailers

Not alot has come out about what Super 8 is really about. Last year there were all the teasers and last night debuted the first real trailer for the film from Stephen Spielberg and JJ Abrams. Still not alot of the plot was revealed but I guess one can say it’s about aliens? Come on that is one of Spielberg’s favorite subjects. Super 8 is in theaters June 10,2011.

What I was most excited about was the first trailer from Captain America. This film has been years in the making, dating all the way back to 2004 when rumors were Brad Pitt was going to star. With the big Avengers movie to start filming this spring there will be a Marvel comic take over this summer and it was about that time to gear up the Captain America trailers. What better way to debut than during the Superbowl. Captain America: The First Avenger is in theaters July 22, 2011

The Best

Chysler’s ‘Imported from Detroit’.  Chrysler was able to make an ad that brought in the American feel on one of the most American days of the year. Oh and of course any shout out to the motor city would no be complete without Eminem.

Favorite:

I loved the Bridgestone ‘Reply All’ Ad. Who hasn’t feared the dreaded reply all mess up in emails. I literally laughed out loud at the part where he grabs the phone from the guy in the woods and pulling the wires in the server room.

Runner Ups:

The Doritos’ ‘House Siting’ Ad. Who didn’t laugh at the end when he walks in and says “Grandpa?!” Hilarious.

Brisk’s Eminem Spot. It’s the claymation commercials we are used to getting from Brisk mix with that Eminem flair. That and the fact that the rapper really hasn’t done alot of commercials so it was a nice treat to get this one from him.

Chevrolet’s ‘Bumble Bee’. At first it looks like one of the hometown dealership commercials and then out pops ‘Bumble Bee.’ Despite this particular ad I was rather annoyed with all the Chevrolet ads. What was it 6 or more different spots and that is not including the long “Glee” ad that aired after the Superbowl.

Best of the Car Commercials

The Best: Volkswagen’s ‘The Force’. A kid dressed up as Darth Vader. Need I say more?

Some probably consider it the best of the night, it was definitely a contender with Chrysler’s ad.

Runner Up: Audi’s Goodnight commercial. A blatant jab at Mercedes, calling it “old luxury”. Burn. I see a new battle coming, kinda on the verge of last year’s AT&T vs. Verizon commercial war for who had the best national coverage.

Honorable Mention: Hyundai’s Anachronistic City.

Watch the just released trailer for the final installment of the Harry Potter series based on the books by author J.K. Rowling. Plus Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios Florida.

This is what movies are about. The world is in vampire mania, but the trailer for the last installment of the Harry Potter series is 10 times better than any Twilight movie. Deathly Hallows I think will be the best HP film since Prisoner of Azkaban. If not even better and it seems like director David Yates has fully redeemed himself from the disappointment that was Order of the Phoenix.But not to be out done it was announced that the final installment of Twilight was going to be released in two parts just like *cough,cough*.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 opens November 19,2010 and Part 2 July 15, 2011 both will be in 3d.

Plus the new Harry Potter mini theme park at Universal’s Islands of Adventures in Orlando,Fl opened this month.  It features a life size replica of the wizarding town of Hogsmeade where muggles can go shopping just like in the books and the Hogwarts castle which features the main attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

Probably not. Since the days of Avatar, it seems that the bar has been raised when it comes to big budget 3d movies. I expected Alice in Wonderland to produce big numbers but on this level? In just it’s two weeks of release, it has brought in over $2oo million dollars. Is it the appeal of Johhny Depp,the classic story or the 3d option? Who knows but if Clash of the Titans lives up to the hype,Warner Bros. is looking ahead at another blockbuster.

You can catch Disney’s Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp in theaters now and Warner Bros. Clash of the Titans in theaters April 2nd.

Say it isn’t so, the final Shrek is upon us. Although all the films from the franchise were good the first one will always be epic. Hopefully it ends as great as it began and so far it looks like it will. Oh did I mention it will be in 3D.

Look what Ralph Fiennes has been doing between Harry Potter movies. Also staring Liam Neeson Warner Bros. is taking another crack at Greek Mythology after the less than stellar performance of 2004′s Troy. Think may have gotten it right this time.

Clash of the Titans March 26, 2010

Despite whatever Bangkok Dangerous was, Nicholas Cage has gotten his second wind thanks to the National Treasure franchise and kept it going with this year’s The Knowning. Seems like he will have another good one on his hands. Thank you Jerry Bruckheimer.

You can’t go wrong with Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston doing a action/comedy. Unfortunately this movie has fallen victim to a bad trailer. It won’t hurt audience turn out  thankfully because like I said it’s Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston. Plus Aniston hasn’t shot a gun in a movie since…Leprechaun?

There has been much talk about this film being very similar to The Baster staring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman due out in August 201o and the studio was pushing to release the film before the other. There might be some truth to it. This film not only started filming after The Baster was wrapping production, but as you can see the trailer is already out for it too. But while the both movies center around women with their biological clock blaring and then doing something about it that’s about where the similarities end so why the rush?

Planet 51 staring the voices of Jessica Biel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson bows this weekend too. The animated movie flips the script on alien invasion. Instead of Earth being visited by aliens, aliens are worried about well aliens or in this case humans visiting their planet.

Then there is The Blind Side (Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw) about a down and out teen who is taken in by a family and ends up not only thriving but becoming a NFL player.

Sony really did it big for pre-promotion. Back during the summer, commercials for the Institution of Human Continuity started rolling on most cable networks, inviting people to join and save themselves before it’s too late. I was even fooled for a second. Of course a few took it way too seriously forcing Sony Pictures ended to make the disclaimer more visible. Despite that, it was a good campaign for the movie and I’m sure Sony will reap the benefits this weekend.
