Lately I am beginning to loathe this kinda of format of the public voting for nominees. Why not just keep it at voting for winners only? These type of award shows just end up turning into a teenagerish/young 20s things because those are the only ones who will mercifully vote over and over again; and that turns into ratings for the network. I miss the days when this award show was actually something to look forward too, good…back in the 90s.
I usually stay away from writing about the Z list stars of MTV reality shows because they are collectively annoying as hell but this is too funny to pass up. MTV’s The Hills premieres its new season tonight @ 10 p.m. and “star” Kristen Cavallari (yeah I didn’t know who she was until a few weeks ago either) was enlisted to drum up some press for tonight’s premiere. How else to do that in Hollywood but by name dropping and name drop she did. Back Story: National Enquirer writer turned gossip blogger Janet Charlton made up a rumor via Page Six that Cavallari and singer/songwriter John Mayer were having as secret love affair for the past 2 years. Mayer was quick to hilariously deny such rumors on twitter as well did Cavallari who said it wasn’t true and that she only met him one time for five minutes. Flash forward: This morning Cavallari, in a change of story, told Ryan Seacrest that she turned him down in that five minute meeting because she “didn’t want to be another notch on his belt”. And as you know it that quote was picked up by Us Weekly, People and every other popular gossip outlet as hoped. She knows damn well John Mayer did not ask her out. This obvious publicity stunt shows not only the stupidity of Cavallari but also how someone would sell their soul all in the name of fame. Mayer semi addressed Cavalliri’s comment on twitter today and I give him props for keeping his cool. He get’s a bad wrap on the female front; the media as they always do with celebrities found something negative to grab onto with Mayer. You know Cavallari woke up this morning and thought this would be the funniest thing to say because some how it’s come to the point that meeting John Mayer automatically means he hit on you. Move aside Spencer and Heidi there’s a new mediawhore in town! Mayer has been making the gossip rounds lately anyway with rumors he was seeing ex Jessica Simpson although both have denied the claims repeatedly while the UK tabloids along with a few Us ones are saying he and recent ex Jennifer Aniston are on the DL again. This rumor has been around for about a month but neither Mayer or Aniston will comment. Regardless of his bedroom action, his new single “Who Says” hits radio waves this week while his new album “BattleStudies” is out November 17th.

It wouldn’t be the MTV Video Music Awards if something unexpected and zany did not happen and that is why it is one of my favorite award shows. MJ Tribute The show got off with a bang from a amazing tribute to the King of Pop who’s sister Janet bookend the tribute performing their hit 1995 song “Scream”. Like to point out that you can not duplicate or imitate MJ, feel bad for that poor dancer who almost fell trying to do that famous lean forward move from “Smooth Criminal”. MTV Shows Kanye’s Not So Glorious Moment Next came the debacle everyone is talking about today, Kanye West stealing Taylor Swift’s thunder. Personally, Taylor Swift isn’t my cup of tea and no I don’t feel she should have won, but that is no reason for Kanye’s crazy ass to go on stage and act like a fool. MTV Shows Later that night he issued a drunken apology that was later snatched from his blog. Today he is still apologizing. I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave… That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry. Kanye’s Blog I like Kanye, and I see where he’s coming from but he made a bad choice here. I feel bad for Taylor. She genuinely looked bummed when it happened and according to reports she cried back stage. Come on, you don’t make the cute, little country singer cry! I do think Kanye feels bad and he will get the backlash he deserves. Russell Brand Want to point out how embarrassed I was with how Brand kept going on and on about the Lady GaGa hermaphrodite rumor. She looked sorta embarrassed and I was embarrassed for her. Speaking of Lady GaGa, loved the whole Opera style performance but the blood pouring out at the end scared me. In the end Russell Brand did a heck of alot better hosting than last year. I think it was the New York vibe. Lady Gaga – New Music – More Music Videos Jay-Z’s New York Fresh off Friday’s 9/11 benefit concert, the Roc Nation leader ended the night with the perfect song. Everyone was feeling it and Lil’ Mama was feeling it too much. The MTV’s ABDC host randomly jumped on stage at the end with Jay-Z kinda brushing her to the back when he realized there was a extra on stage. LOL Jay-Z – New Music – More Music Videos Classy Beyonce The Video of the Year winner graciously gave up her shining moment to Taylor Swift. Expected nothing less from her and Taylor really did deserve her moment. MTV Shows And she gave a fantastic performance of the hit song.
The Video of the Year winner graciously gave up her shining moment to Taylor Swift. Expected nothing less from her and Taylor really did deserve her moment.

And she gave a fantastic performance of the hit song.

Eminem’s Poker Face

If you watched throughout the night you would see that Lady GaGa’s outfits went from bad to just plain outrageous. When she won for Best New Artist, Eminem’s face summed up everyone’s feelings on the red prison she was in when she went on stage.

If you missed these highlights just log on to MTV.com catch the entire show. This will definitely go down in VMAs history.

Until next year.

Well if you thought last year’s VMAS were lack luster then you might think the same again this year as Russell Brand returns for his second shot as host for the MTV award show. For the second year in a row, comedian Russell Brand will host the live show, taking place at some of the city’s most iconic locations, including Radio City Music Hall. MTV I agree with most when it’s said the the VMAS have been lacking the past few years. There were no memoriable moments from last year at all. I give MTV a A for trying to hype up the show on their sites. Maybe the vibe of New York will make it more watchable this year, but if they really want people to tune it they need to announce more musical acts other than Taylor Swift and Muse. Taylor Swift doesn’t scream VMAs too me. Regardless the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards air Sept. 13th on MTV.
It’s been years since the award show season schedule has had any drastic changes. Well never to fear because now it’s time to play Award Season Shuffle where the award ceremonies are tospie turvey and confusing as ever. Keep up. Academy Awards Because the winter Olympics will be held in February the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences decided to move the ceremony from February to early March, so no competition for viewers attention with the Olympians. This of course changes when the nominees announcing from January to Feb. 2, 2010. Announced today is the Academy has up the limit of Best Picture nominees from 5 to 10 films. The board’s decision to double the category to 10 nominees “may make it more interesting and less cloistered,” said Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences prexy Sid Ganis at a press conference Wednesday morning. Ganis speculated that the longer list could include a documentary, foreign-lingo film, animated feature and, he deadpanned, “maybe even a comedy.” The expansion to 10 slots increases the chances of films in those three categories, which have long been eligible for best-pic bids but may have missed out because they have their own categories, as some Oscar voters have said in the past. And indie films gain, because there’s more room for “little” movies. Variety Now before you groan at the show already being almost 4 hours, the fims that will make next year’s Best Picture Nominees more interesting.Who wouldn’t love to see Iron Man 2 up for best picture. Huh, Huh, anyone? Ok. So I dream big. let’s continue. Emmys Earlier this year the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that because of the NFL 2010 season both airing on CBS the show was moved to Sept. 13th so it wouldn’t have to compromise with Sunday football. However, when CBS made the change it was unaware that the MTV Video Music Awards are set to air on Sept. 13th as well. With MTV claiming it couldn’t budge on their date, CBS was force to move the Emmys to Sept. 20th. The Creative Arts Emmys will be awarded on Sept. 12th but instead of them ariring on E! a week before the Emmys, it will be aired the night before which usual never happens. Oh the drama. This change moves TV’s biggest night back to where it was originally as the ceremony use to air in Sept. until everyone played Award Season Shuffle the ’05 edition. Grammys Lastly the Grammy Awards have moved their date from early February to late January. January 31st to be exact. Wait isn’t that Superbowl weekend? Why yes it is but next year the Superbowl will air on February 7th instead which caused the move. This will be the earliest the ceremony has ever taken place. It get’s better. With the date moved up the window for eligible music for the 2010 Grammys has changed from Oct.-Sept. to Oct.-Aug. So if a artist wants his/her music up for some...

Emmys

Earlier this year the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that because of the NFL 2010 season both airing on CBS the show was moved to Sept.

Grammys

Lastly the Grammy Awards have moved their date from early February to late January. So if a artist wants his/her music up for some Grammys next year, they need to quicken up the release of their work. Releases in Sept. will be shuffled into the 2011 ceremony. Be prepared for alot of new music pumping in your ears before the summers out.

VMAS

MTV’s more anticpated ceremony use to air for years in late August or earlier Sept. No real reason why it’s airing so late this year, but let’s just blame them for all the problems involving the Emmys. You know CBS excs. are still pissed over this. The VMAS hasn’t aired this late on MTV since it’s first show back in the 80s. It will be taking place at Radio City Music Hall. Yeah I know, MTV is running out of host cities. I think with TRL gone they have just gotten lazy. How about D.C. as a host city, what a change of venue that would be!

Golden Globes

No real change, this award ceremony will air January 17, 2010 on NBC as schedule.

Did you keep up? It was as exhausting typing this up as it was reading it. Thanks for playing Award Season shuffle ’10 edition. Hopefully we won’t have to play this for a few more years. Fingers Crossed.

As always updated air dates of award ceremonies each year are available on the ’09 Awards page at the top.
