“Yes, I’m taking over,” Ferrell told EW when asked abut a rumor that he’s going to be Steve Carell’s permanent and full-time replacement. “My character’s name is Deangelo Vickers, he loves the American Southwest, and he’s just kind of in his own way going to step into Michael Scott’s shoes and try to fill them. I’m friends with Steve and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’” And then the multiple episodes became a regular gig? ”Yeah,” replied Ferrell. “A regular, full-time gig.” One source close to Ferrell added that the actor’s schedule is being cleared to accommodate the show, which will enter its eighth season in September. This could be like winning the jackpot for him and NBC. Ferrell took a hit in his career when “Land of the Lost” was a major flop in 2009. Since then he has done a little TV guesting and his films The Other Guys (2010) with Marky Mark Wakhberg, and “Megamind” (2011) did well at the box office plus adding the prospects of his latest gig. NBC would have struggled to keep “The Office” afloat without Steve Carell unless they found a bigger comedic personality than him. Studio heads will keep denying Ferrell as a replacement until they see how ratings fair when his guest episodes air.  Last year Steve Carell decided not to return for another season of the Emmy winning show “The Office”. His last day on set was March 4th.

The Trailers

Not alot has come out about what Super 8 is really about. Last year there were all the teasers and last night debuted the first real trailer for the film from Stephen Spielberg and JJ Abrams. Still not alot of the plot was revealed but I guess one can say it’s about aliens? Come on that is one of Spielberg’s favorite subjects. Super 8 is in theaters June 10,2011.

What I was most excited about was the first trailer from Captain America. This film has been years in the making, dating all the way back to 2004 when rumors were Brad Pitt was going to star. With the big Avengers movie to start filming this spring there will be a Marvel comic take over this summer and it was about that time to gear up the Captain America trailers. What better way to debut than during the Superbowl. Captain America: The First Avenger is in theaters July 22, 2011

The Best

Chysler’s ‘Imported from Detroit’.  Chrysler was able to make an ad that brought in the American feel on one of the most American days of the year. Oh and of course any shout out to the motor city would no be complete without Eminem.

Favorite:

I loved the Bridgestone ‘Reply All’ Ad. Who hasn’t feared the dreaded reply all mess up in emails. I literally laughed out loud at the part where he grabs the phone from the guy in the woods and pulling the wires in the server room.

The Doritos’ ‘House Siting’ Ad. Who didn’t laugh at the end when he walks in and says “Grandpa?!” Hilarious.

Brisk’s Eminem Spot. It’s the claymation commercials we are used to getting from Brisk mix with that Eminem flair. That and the fact that the rapper really hasn’t done alot of commercials so it was a nice treat to get this one from him.

Chevrolet’s ‘Bumble Bee’. At first it looks like one of the hometown dealership commercials and then out pops ‘Bumble Bee.’ Despite this particular ad I was rather annoyed with all the Chevrolet ads. What was it 6 or more different spots and that is not including the long “Glee” ad that aired after the Superbowl.

Best of the Car Commercials

The Best: Volkswagen’s ‘The Force’. A kid dressed up as Darth Vader. Need I say more?

Some probably consider it the best of the night, it was definitely a contender with Chrysler’s ad.

Runner Up: Audi’s Goodnight commercial. A blatant jab at Mercedes, calling it “old luxury”. Burn. I see a new battle coming, kinda on the verge of last year’s AT&T vs. Verizon commercial war for who had the best national coverage.

Honorable Mention: Hyundai’s Anachronistic City.

If I recall right, the average Disney Channel is suppose to last no more than 3 seasons but there has been one other exception that has landed a show into a fourth season due to popularity besides Hannah. That would be ‘That’s So Raven’ that ended it’s Disney Channel reign in 2007.

It would be a lie to say I am not sad about this even though I knew this day would come sooner or later.

Now it’s finally here. Last night Fox announced after weeks of speculation that ’24′ is indeed ending it’s 8 year run this season. No more CTU, no more Chloe, no more ‘Super Jack. ‘

News, finally confirmed by Fox, had been expected — Variety reported earlier this month that the network was ready to call it a day (Daily Variety, March 9). Sutherland, exec producer Howard Gordon and the studio were also leaning toward ending the show’s run as well.

“For us, creatively, it seemed like the right time to do it,” Sutherland told Variety. “It’s very bittersweet. ’24′ was the greatest learning experience of my career so far. And on a personal level, working with this cast and crew and writers, these will be friends of mine for the rest of my life.” Variety

Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack Bauer and the writers of ’24′ rejuvenated prime-time drama and brought Fox back into play with the other top networks. It was unlike anything seen on tv; a show whose seasons follow the life of the hardest working civilian government employee EVER, while keeping it all in 60 minutes of real time each week.  I have been a faithful viewer since it first aired in 2001, I don’t know what I will do with my Monday nights.  Regardless, show producer Howard Gordan are pushing for a ’24′ movie.

Both Sutherland and Gordon said they’re bullish now on moving Jack Bauer to the big screen, and compressing a 24-hour day — yes, the entire movie’s action will still take place in just one day — over the course of just two hours.

“The opportunity to make a movie and do a two-hour representation was something appealing to he and I both,” Sutherland said.

As Variety reported in February, scribe Billy Ray (“State of Play”) is busy writing a screenplay; Gordon will produce.

“For the first time, we’ll be able to go from England to Russia, or China to Japan, depending on where they choose to set it,” Sutherland said. “Before on the TV show, the crisis had to come to us. The best we could do it was get across town… It alleviates a huge hurdle that real-time writing presented.”

Jack Bauer chasing terrorists around the world? Yes and Yes.

The final episode of ’24′ is set to air Monday ay 24th in a 2 hour series final.

The cable network began conversations with corporate sibling Warner Bros. TV, which produces the cop drama, shortly after “Southland” was abruptly canceled by NBC earlier this month.

Though a deal has not been completed, it now appears likely.

If the pact goes though, it would mark a rare resurrection of a canceled broadcast series on cable, something that couldn’t be worked out for a slew of other shows, including critical darling “Arrested Development,” fan favorite “Moonlight” or veteran “My Name Is Earl.”

Early this month, NBC made the stupid decision of canceling Southland citing the show having too heavy of a plot for network tv.

What’s your favorite “Housewives” series ?

She returns to the spotlight in her new show premiering tonight at 9 p.m. on TNT. Her she is in a interview with Essence Magazine.

ESSENCE.COM: We love that your character, Chief Nursing Officer Christina Hawthorne, fights for the underdogs and makes sure that her patients and staff don’t fall by the wayside. How does she mirror Mrs. Smith?
JADA PINKETT SMITH: (Laughs.) Well, I’m definitely more of Mrs. Smith than I am Mrs. Hawthorne, but in my personal fight for the underdog it’s in my blood, my roots, because I myself was an underdog growing up in Baltimore. Thankfully, I saw beyond my circumstances, so I constantly want to encourage every human being to reach for their highest goal if they are willing to take that journey. In that way she and I are a lot alike.

ESSENCE.COM: Now, where do you two stand on opposite sides of the fence?
PINKETT SMITH: She’s married to a White guy and raising a [biracial] daughter, which presents its own set of challenges. Also, I’m a different kind of mother. Christina wants to do everything for her daughter, where as I’ve always believed that children are little adults and, at the end of the day, you have to teach them how to be responsible for their own lives. As parents our job is to take their power and use it in a way that is prolife, not take all of our child’s power to make them do the things we want them to do.

ESSENCE.COM: Your show has perfect timing, especially since one of President Obama’s leading issues is health care reform. Will your show tackle this issue?
PINKETT SMITH: We are definitely going to have some story lines that touch upon the politics of health care next season. However, this season we focus on how nurses interact with one another and how doctors heal and the nurses heal the soul. So there are a couple of issues where we do address the politics of health care and hospitals but it’s something we’ll dive more into in the future.

ESSENCE.COM: You’re a woman who appears to have it all together. Is there ever a time that you’ve lost faith in yourself?
PINKETT SMITH: (Laughs.) Are you kidding me? I’m constantly losing my faith. You never get to a place where you don’t question whether you’re on the right path. I’d be surprised to find anyone whose foundation that hasn’t been shaken in some capacity. Sometimes people don’t want to take the responsibility of winning or losing so they lose focus as a [defense mechanism] which keeps them from doing what they need to do. But to achieve great things you have to stay focused and be clear about what you want. The only way to do that is to prioritize. This way you are extremely clear about what you’re giving up, gaining, and what you will and won’t do.

ESSENCE.COM: Perhaps President Obama and the First Lady have taken some of the pressure off of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who have been deemed as the epitome of the Black family nucleus. How do you think the Obamas have inspired and influenced Black men and women?
PINKETT SMITH: I always hear from people who know us, “That’s you and Will!” And I have to tell them, “No, it’s not just me and Will.” You know Will and I, we try to walk the talk. When you can be what you’re talking about and still work in the community with your fellow men and women and treat them with respect—just that idea alone means that everyone learns from each other. It’s an idea of what the Obamas have done and spread worldwide. This kind of love and partnership doesn’t just happen with one or two couples. That level of unity creates a certain power and it’s not done by President Obama or First Lady Michelle, but together. When it comes to Black love we need to really acknowledge what we can achieve.

ESSENCE.COM: So true. As a mother, wife and strong Black career woman who supports her man, what would you say to those who criticize women like yourself and Michelle Obama for sacrificing some of your own dreams?
PINKETT SMITH: I don’t think people really understand the amount of pressure it is not to allow the foundation of your relationship to crack. The sacrifice that Mrs. Obama has made is not only for her husband, the President, but for us as a country. People look at Obama and yes, he’s the President, but don’t forget that the woman in every household is the glue. Mrs. Obama keeps the mind, body, spirit and household together of America’s President. She is the source for strength and comfort, and sometimes I don’t think people recognize that position. It’s such bullsh– because what she’s doing right now is the hardest and most important thing, so people who make such a criticism have a very limited perspective and a lack of awareness. It doesn’t mean that Mrs. Obama is falling in the background, but simply standing her ground as many of us strong, secure women have done for years.

In case you have been living under a rock tonight is Jay Leno’s last night as host of the Tonight Show and besides James Taylor performing, his final guess will be none other than Mr. Conan O’Brien. Believe it or not after 17 years Jay Leno will say good bye to late night tv. Then next week will have former Late Night host Conan O’Brien slipping in to fill the spot.

Although Conan has for years been my favorite late night host then Leno, I never really grasped on to Leno hosting his own prime time show in the fall. I feel that in someway it’s stealing Conan’s very much anticipated thunder. Maybe I will turn around once I see a few episodes, but I don’t see Leno’s new show going past one season.

I will miss Jay Leno hosting but am so excited to see Conan move into the 11:35 slot. Don’t forget to watch tonight!
