Best Picture I watched 8 out of the 1o Films nominated for Best Picture this year. (Phew!) Besides the two that turned out to be something totally different than what I was expecting, I wasn’t really impressed with the crop of films this award season. With that said honestly film wise the best this year out of the nominees was Inception. Despite whether you understood the film or not, it was just a great cinema experience. Will it win top honors? No. That would be a huge surprise if it did. Black Swan and Winter’s Bone were the two films that took me into left field because they weren’t what I was expecting. I had a “what in the world am I watching?!” face the whole time throughout both. The Social Network I thought was a horrible film. I was bored wondering when is this movie going to end. i love David Fincher’s work usually but was very disappointed. Who Will (Probably) Win: The King’s Speech or The Social Network Best Actor I did not like 127 Hours or thought it was worth a nomination for James Franco. If it was up to me I would chose Jeff Bridges because he was brilliant in True Grit. I will go even further and say that I get why The King’s Speech is an Oscar bair movie, but not sure if Colin Firth was the best of the crop but he was definitely good in it. Who Will (Probably) Win: Colin Firth Best Actress As weird and odd Black Swan was, Natalie Portman did go a good job playing a pyscho, sexual confused/frustated ballerina and she will win this. Who Will (Probably) Win: Natalie Portman Supporting Actress Sorry but Hailee Steinfeld was so good in this. I don’t care about the others, she should win this.
It’s been years since the award show season schedule has had any drastic changes. Well never to fear because now it’s time to play Award Season Shuffle where the award ceremonies are tospie turvey and confusing as ever. Keep up. Academy Awards Because the winter Olympics will be held in February the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences decided to move the ceremony from February to early March, so no competition for viewers attention with the Olympians. This of course changes when the nominees announcing from January to Feb. 2, 2010. Announced today is the Academy has up the limit of Best Picture nominees from 5 to 10 films. The board’s decision to double the category to 10 nominees “may make it more interesting and less cloistered,” said Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences prexy Sid Ganis at a press conference Wednesday morning. Ganis speculated that the longer list could include a documentary, foreign-lingo film, animated feature and, he deadpanned, “maybe even a comedy.” The expansion to 10 slots increases the chances of films in those three categories, which have long been eligible for best-pic bids but may have missed out because they have their own categories, as some Oscar voters have said in the past. And indie films gain, because there’s more room for “little” movies. Variety Now before you groan at the show already being almost 4 hours, the fims that will make next year’s Best Picture Nominees more interesting.Who wouldn’t love to see Iron Man 2 up for best picture. Huh, Huh, anyone? Ok. So I dream big. let’s continue. Emmys Earlier this year the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that because of the NFL 2010 season both airing on CBS the show was moved to Sept. 13th so it wouldn’t have to compromise with Sunday football. However, when CBS made the change it was unaware that the MTV Video Music Awards are set to air on Sept. 13th as well. With MTV claiming it couldn’t budge on their date, CBS was force to move the Emmys to Sept. 20th. The Creative Arts Emmys will be awarded on Sept. 12th but instead of them ariring on E! a week before the Emmys, it will be aired the night before which usual never happens. Oh the drama. This change moves TV’s biggest night back to where it was originally as the ceremony use to air in Sept. until everyone played Award Season Shuffle the ’05 edition. Grammys Lastly the Grammy Awards have moved their date from early February to late January. January 31st to be exact. Wait isn’t that Superbowl weekend? Why yes it is but next year the Superbowl will air on February 7th instead which caused the move. This will be the earliest the ceremony has ever taken place. It get’s better.
Emmys

Earlier this year the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that because of the NFL 2010 season both airing on CBS the show was moved to Sept.

Grammys

Lastly the Grammy Awards have moved their date from early February to late January. January 31st to be exact. Wait isn’t that Superbowl weekend? Why yes it is but next year the Superbowl will air on February 7th instead which caused the move. This will be the earliest the ceremony has ever taken place. It get’s better. With the date moved up the window for eligible music for the 2010 Grammys has changed from Oct.-Sept. to Oct.-Aug. So if a artist wants his/her music up for some Grammys next year, they need to quicken up the release of their work. Releases in Sept. will be shuffled into the 2011 ceremony. Be prepared for alot of new music pumping in your ears before the summers out.

VMAS

MTV’s more anticpated ceremony use to air for years in late August or earlier Sept. No real reason why it’s airing so late this year, but let’s just blame them for all the problems involving the Emmys. You know CBS excs. are still pissed over this. The VMAS hasn’t aired this late on MTV since it’s first show back in the 80s. It will be taking place at Radio City Music Hall. Yeah I know, MTV is running out of host cities. I think with TRL gone they have just gotten lazy. How about D.C. as a host city, what a change of venue that would be!

Golden Globes

No real change, this award ceremony will air January 17, 2010 on NBC as schedule.

Did you keep up? It was as exhausting typing this up as it was reading it. Thanks for playing Award Season shuffle ’10 edition. Hopefully we won’t have to play this for a few more years. Fingers Crossed.

As always updated air dates of award ceremonies each year are available on the ’09 Awards page at the top.
