AND THE GOLDEN GLOBE GOES TOO…2012 GOLDEN GLOBE WINNERS LIST

The 69th Golden Globes were handed out Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. While most of the buzz surrounding the show was whether or not Rocky Gervais would stick it to snobbish Hollywood actors(which he didn’t. ) there were some surprises (Meryl Streep winning her 298083 Globe statue, let someone else have a chance)and cheers ( Matt Leblanc finally won something!).

The Golden Globes have always been seen as a blueprint to the Academy Awards and I think the this year will be one of those years where in some categories like Best Actress will be a fight to the finish with the likes of Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Michelle Williams most likely guaranteed nominations. The other categories?, eh the Hollywood Foreign Press relied on their usuals as winners like Martin Scorseise, Kate Winselt and George Clooney.  The most notable winners from last night is Octavia Spencer who won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for ‘The Help’ and Idris Elba for his work in the Miniseries ‘Luther’. It’s hard enough for Black Actors to get work let alone win big awards so congratulations to Ms. Spencer and Mr. Elba.

Honorable Mention: Laura Dern. I think she is one of those actors who are good but doesn’t always get public recognition. She won for Best Actress in a TV series/Comedy, good for her.

Please Accept Your Award Then Graciously Sit Back Down: Madonna was her forever self-loving her. She has work so hard the past few months to make everyone accept her as a serious director, expect it was a win for Original Song not Best Director. Listening to her acceptance speech, you would have thought differently.  She has that, I’m a director now for reals, Angelina Jolie syndrome.

Hollywood Legends: Sidney Poitier and Helen Mirren presented Morgan Freeman with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement.
