Things Are Going From Bad to Worse

Posted on 07 November 2007   Strike

The writer’s strike could last well into 2008.  That is not good for shows currently on air or shows coming in mid season. Production on major tv hauls like Desperate Housewives could have production stop as earlier as next week when all previous written episodes are filmed.  The problem is now becoming bigger now as some producers are deciding not to continue production in support of the writer’s.  The great thing that I have been obseriving is that most are in support of the writer’s but are also in support of the strike ending as soon as possible.

If the strike does go into 2008, I think a resoluution will come quickly because then movie studios will start to feel the effect and you could then have more people and actors walking of of sets in support including the Teamsters.

  1. The strike most likely will last into 2008 (the last strike in 1988 lasted almost six months!). Plus, all the drama that NBC is making won’t help negotiations.

The movie industry won’t be affected for a while, because they have 300+ scripts stockpiled and tons of nonunion actors willing to work. Technically, union actors (under SAG, AFTRA, Equity, etc.) can’t really strike because their contract doesn’t expire until June 2008.
